Trish Bergin

Trish Bergin

Suffolk County Legislator

Councilwoman Trish Bergin is a life-long resident of the Suffolk County and currently resides in East Islip. Trish made the transition from journalist to local government in 2010.  She brings with her a depth of knowledge on a myriad of issues facing county residents.

As a member of the Islip Town Board, Trish worked tirelessly to cut wasteful government spending, helped Islip achieve a AAA bond rating and was committed to reduce the tax burden on residents and businesses.  Trish supports Suffolk County Law Enforcement to ensure safer neighborhoods.

As an award-winning investigative journalist, Trish covered numerous stories that deeply affected our community, including an in-depth report on the drug problem plaguing our youth, and a moving segment on the valiant efforts of our uniformed men and women on September 11th.  In addition, her hands-on experience as a street reporter brought her to the front lines of some of Suffolk County’s most pressing issues, including runaway taxes, crime, and the need for sustainable housing.

Trish sees that the quality of life on Long Island is, in many ways, dictated by governmental decisions made on the county level. As a member of the County Legislature, Trish will bring fresh ideas to County government.  For example, widening our reach of geothermal technology and supporting solar energy are among Trish’s green energy priorities.

Trish Bergin grew up in Ronkonkoma and is a graduate of Connetquot High School.  She received a Bachelor of Arts from New York Institute of Technology where she graduated Cum Laude and received a full scholarship to the school’s Master’s Program, where she earned a Master of Arts. Trish served as a member of the Islip Town Board for 12 years.  As a journalist, she worked at News 12 Long Island, CBS, Inside Edition and Fox News Channel’s Strategy Room.
